For just $50 we can put a young woman through an entire year of our at-home literacy program in Afghanistan. Our at home literacy programs are open to women ages 7-55 who are not able to attend school for a multitude of reasons. Be it that their parents don't want them to or that they weren't able to go to school when they were younger. $2,000 makes it possible for 40 women and girls to gain an education.

Studies have found that women who are educated are more likely to send their own children to school and can earn up to 20% more than their peers.

Meet, Mamur Shah she is from a family that lives in Kuzaymak Khana Village in the Andkhoi District of Faryab Province, Afghanistan. She is 19 years old and is enrolled in the ninth grade level of the literacy program. She has four brothers and two sisters, however only two of her brothers go to school. Her father is a merchant and her mother takes care of the home.

In school Mamur Shah is most interested in math class. However, due to her age Mamur Shah faces a lot of scrutiny from the local community even though her family is supportive of her pursuing an education. She dreams of graduating from our literacy program and going on to college to further her education.

Mamur Shah is just one of the hundreds of women and girls we are working to educate, with your help we can make a difference in their lives. On this Giving Tuesday we hope you will join us in giving hope in a world filled with conflict.
